Retold Prototypes Without a Story by Adrian For

January 6 - February 2

Free

The Ottawa School of Art ByWard Market Campus is proud to present ‘Retold Prototypes Without a Story’ an exhibition of works by Adrian Gor. This exhibition is on display from Monday January 6 to Sunday February 2, 2025, in the J.W. Stellick Gallery located on the main floor of the Downtown Campus at 35 George St., in the ByWard Market.

“Retold Prototypes Without a Story” examines masculine identity through drawings and prints, reimagining both historical and contemporary figures. Adrian Gor challenges traditional masculinity by blending classical anatomy, medieval symbolism, and modern elements like shopping carts and drones.

An Ottawa-based artist, Gor is known for his figurative pastel drawings on paper and linen, as well as relief prints and etchings. His work delves into the psychological and cultural aspects of masculinity, questioning values such as strength, rationality, and virility. He reinterprets traditional and symbolic representations of the human figure, drawing from classical, medieval, and postmodern critiques of technology and capitalism, alongside personal experiences.

Gor holds an MFA from the University of Windsor and a PhD in Art History and Philosophy from Concordia University. He teaches Art History and Foundation Drawing at the Ottawa School of Art, where he also serves as Diploma Coordinator. His research explores connections between contemporary art, modern art, and medieval theology, with publications in SAGE Journals, Journal of Religion and Culture, and the New Europe College Ştefan Odobleja Program Yearbook (2017). Notable past exhibitions include the Tonitza Gallery in Romania (2023), OSA Gallery at Shenkman Arts Centre (2022), and ARTSPLACE Gallery in Nova Scotia (2021).
