Michael Beddall

Oil Painting Artist

Michael Beddall is an Ottawa-based painter whose work explores the Canadian wilderness through oil on canvas. Drawing inspiration from the Group of Seven, particularly Lawren Harris and Tom Thomson, he creates landscapes that are not literal records, but reimagined interpretations of nature’s beauty. His paintings emphasize light, colour, and an idealized vision of the wilderness, blending memory, imagination, and observation into vivid, dreamlike scenes.

Beddall has exhibited internationally and locally, with solo shows at the Black Squirrel (Ottawa, 2015), Urban Art Show (Ottawa, 2012), Design Festa Gallery (Tokyo, 2010), and The Pink Cow (Tokyo, 2009), as well as group exhibitions including Figureworks (Ottawa, 2013) and SAW Gallery Sketch Fundraiser (Ottawa, 2012).

Beddall’s background in graphic design informs his approach to painting, particularly in his use of composition, colour, and visual balance. He continues to develop his practice, creating work that invites viewers to experience the Canadian landscape in its most evocative and dreamlike form.
