Acrylic Artist

Colleen MacKinnon-Simms is a Canadian contemporary fine artist based in Ottawa, Ontario. Largely self-taught, she began developing her artistic practice through studies at the Ottawa School of Art in the early 1990s and has continued to refine her work through online courses and workshops, particularly since retiring from her career in interior design in 2022. Influenced by the legacy of the Group of Seven and inspired by both national and international travel, Colleen explores a range of subject matter in her paintings, from tranquil waterscapes to her emerging Retro collection currently in development. Her work is characterized by a vivid colour palette and a loose, contemporary style, with lively, expressive brushstrokes that convey energy, warmth, and joy.

Colleen is an active member of the Art East Association in Orléans, Ontario, and her artwork has been featured in community exhibitions such as the Merrickville Art Walk. She maintains an online presence through her Instagram account colleen_mackinnon_simms_artist and her Facebook page CMKS Fine Art, where she shares her evolving artistic practice. Committed to lifelong learning, she continues to participate in workshops and cultivate meaningful connections with fellow artists. Drawing inspiration from travel, nature, and her appreciation of the musical arts, Colleen believes that sharing creative journeys with other artists and art enthusiasts fosters collective growth and artistic discovery.
