SUMMARY:Focus Series
DESCRIPTION:The Focus Series is an ongoing partnership between Library and Archives Canada and the National Gallery of Canada\, building on the rich collections of both institutions. \nFocus on the Métis — A103 Corridor and A103a\nA special collaboration that examines how early images of the Métis are often misidentified or not referenced at all. A careful look at details in historical art and photographs reveals that the Métis are often “hiding in plain sight.” \nPictorialism — A104a\nThe predominant aesthetic in photography throughout the first half of the twentieth century was pictorialism. \nWork is art/Art is work — A109a\nThis installation examines the various ways artists responded to the critical issues of the Depression era. \nPoints of View: Photography in the North — A111a\nDocumentary photographer Pamela Harris recorded community life in Taloyoak\, Nunavut (then Spence Bay\, NWT) for three months in 1972 and 1973 (published as Another Way of Being). Her photographs appear both casual and staged\, the resulting photographic sessions respectfully engaging two cultures and important considerations such as the agency and self-representation of Inuit.

DESCRIPTION:Helen Nhan\nDEFINITIONS \nSeptember 25 – October 14\nVernissage: Saturday\, September 27\, 2:00 – 5:00pm\nNhan Statement\nIn this exhibition\, artist Helen Nhan explores how our perceptions hold space. Redefining\, within each piece\, definitions by opening windows to identities. \nFrom her latest works emerges an intimate\, limited series titled Being Undone. Casting form and colour onto canvas to portray a lived experience\, she creates a new chapter in order to carry the weight of the in-between. \nIt is a series born out of motherhood.\nTo find the truth behind vulnerability.\nTo search for the strength behind resilience.\nThe loss of self\, found. \nThroughout her artist practice\, her process remains conscious in composition\, the choice of colour\, use of geometry\, shape and form- deliberate. \nNhan Biography \nHelen Nhan is a Canadian abstract artist based in Ottawa\, ON. She returned to her artistic practice in 2019 after placing it on hold to build a successful career as an optometrist. \nRecent exhibitions include a solo exhibition at the Shenkman Arts Centre and a group exhibition at the Ottawa Art Gallery. She has also been a featured artist of Saatchi Art. \nhelennhan.com\nRepresented by: Galerie St-Laurent + Hill \nParking is available on the street and in the parking garage right behind the gallery. SUMMARY:Databells Experience
DESCRIPTION:Databells is an immersive experience featuring a whimsical and eclectic collection of bells\, ringing to the beat of the statistics they’re connected to. \nA bell might be ringing when a star is born in our galaxy\, or chiming every time someone is born. In the distance\, you hear a bell ringing each time a ship passes through the Suez Canal\, or an Amazon package is delivered. Maybe you even arrive at a bell which tolls when someone farts in the room. Databells is a visualization of human experience\, through the lens of the statistics that make up our daily lives\, or deepest fears\, and even things that span far beyond our little blue planet. \nDatabells invites you to journey down a winding path of illuminated bells\, all arranged in an unforgettable and experiential statistical symphony. \nSeptember 25 to October 17\, 2025Thursdays to Sundays10am – 3pm

SUMMARY:Éléments by Léa-Sylvie Pilon
DESCRIPTION:After a long personal journey\, Léa-Sylvie Pilon now thrives through painting as a way of life. Inspired by nature and guided by her emotions\, she has moved beyond the strict confines of hyperrealism to explore a vibrant\, impressionistic style. Each canvas emerges from an instinctive impulse\, layering inks and oils that reflect the stages of her life. Her works\, luminous and full of contrast\, convey a renewed sense of freedom and the deep joy of reconnecting with the child artist within her. \nhttps://lespeinturesdelea.wixsite.com/sylvie \nShe will present her stunning pieces in her solo exhibition Éléments\, running from \nSeptember 25 to October 18.
