SUMMARY:Terra : The Good Earth by Olga Kay-Grigoriev and Erin Thibault
DESCRIPTION:Galerie Old Chelsea is pleased to present the art by two of ten Galerie Old Chelsea’s owners\, Erin Thibault & Olga Kay-Grigoriev who are excited to share their love of the natural world. Whether it’s the light cascading through the trees\, as Erin captures in her paintings\, or the subtle details of a single leaf carved out of wood by Olga\, both artists give homage to the beauty of nature that is all around us in the Gatineau Hills. \nErin’s work is inspired by her deep connection to nature\, to wild spaces and\nto the natural world around her. Her paintings are rather dreamy\, as she paints the essence of the subject rather than its exacting details.  As Picasso famously said…” I begin with an idea and it becomes something else”. Erin’s works will often start with a particular scene and at a certain point will organically shift into an entirely different image. She allows whatever is claiming the canvas to do so\, letting go of the reigns and allowing the essential to come through. She can often see it emerging and flows with it.  She considers herself an intuitive painter\, working in an impressionist style. \nFollowing a fulfilling career in education\, Olga turned to wood sculpture as a new way of artistic expression. She trained first with a fellow artist to discover the potential of various mechanical and hand-carving tools\, then took courses in sculpture in Florence\, Italy\, and also life drawing at the Ottawa School of Art\, Olga now spends time in her Quebec studio putting the learning to practice in a process of playful experimentation as new ideas come to mind. \nShe enjoys working with wood as it evokes a banquet of sensory stimulation and a warmth only nature can convey. Carving is a satisfying process which offers sufficient challenge and risk to keep her interest. Olga’s material comes from fallen trees on her property or from the surrounding Gatineau Hills. Her muse is the journey of life\, through love and loss\, joy and sorrow and all the stories in between. Animals\, people and objects in nature are the subject of her work. Her pieces reside in many homes and gardens. She welcomes special commissions\, for in art\, just as in life\, anything is possible. \nIn addition to the vernissage on Saturday May 10\, Erin et Olga will be present at the gallery on the following days: \nErin: Friday May 2 from noon to 3:00 pm. / Friday May 9 and 16 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 / Saturday May 3 from noon to 3:00 / Saturday May 17 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm \nOlga: Sunday May 4\,11 and 18 from 1:00pm to 4:00 pm

SUMMARY:SEEING THINGS by Jeff Rosen
DESCRIPTION:Canadian artist Jeff Rosen’s explosive free-associative style and category-defying paintings capture impressions of dream states and meditations  – revealing faces\, figures\, animals\, totems\, metaphysical landscapes\, and non-existent entities. \nHe is galleried in Toronto\, Ottawa\, and Halifax\, and his works are included in galleries and private collections in Canada\, Germany\, and the USA. \nRecently\, two major works have been acquired by the government of Canada as part of their permanent Global Affairs Visual Arts Collection\, (VAC) one of Canada’s most prestigious national collections. \nWhen not painting\, Jeff creates\, writes\, and produces award-winning children’s television series like Bo on the Go\, Poko\, Animal Mechanicals\, The Mighty Jungle\, Pirates!\, Monster Math Squad\, and Space Ranger Roger. SUMMARY:Behind the Curtain
DESCRIPTION:Wall Space Gallery is proud to present “Behind the Curtain\,” a group exhibition of paintings by Kelly Grace\, Andrew Beck\, Elle Chae\, and Jay Li. The artists in “Behind the Curtain” construct worlds through the collapse of linear time\, combining past eras or moments from personal archives in snapshots of layered imagery that capture the stretching and tidal current of time in motion. \nBeck\, Chae\, Grace and Li reveal the ways in which we are drawn to creating meaning through visual imagery\, and subsequently\, painting’s ability to question the solidity of the structures underlying that meaning. Each uses the malleable constructs of time\, cultural memory\, and personal experience to grasp the slippery threads of reality\, if only for a moment. \nOpening reception on Thursday\, May 1 from 5 – 7 PM

SUMMARY:Les Grands Bleus: Micros and Macrocosms in all their magnificence
DESCRIPTION:The gallery is proud to present its new exhibition\, “Les Grands Bleus: Micros and Macrocosms in All Their Magnificence\,” featuring the remarkable works of landscape artist Nathalie Frenière and ceramic artist Lise BL Goulet. This exhibition offers a compelling exploration of the relationship between the natural world and ceramic artistry\, as both artists draw inspiration from the beauty of blue hues found in nature and landscapes. \nNathalie Frenière’s captivating landscapes convey the tranquillity and wonder of serene vistas. Through her masterful use of colour and light\, each painting invites viewers to immerse themselves in the peacefulness of the outdoors. \nIn contrast\, Lise BL Goulet’s refined ceramic works showcase her deep appreciation for texture and form. Her pieces frequently feature blue tones\, echoing the themes in Frenière’s paintings and establishing a rich visual dialogue between the two art forms. \nThe vernissage will take place on May 10th from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the artists\, engage in meaningful conversations about their work\, and gain insight into their creative processes.

SUMMARY:Urban Perspectives By Maurice Dionne
DESCRIPTION:In Maurice Dionne’s latest art exhibition\, “Urban Perspectives\,” he invites viewers to explore the intricate interplay between its built environment and the life that pulses within it. Through a series of captivating cityscapes and streetscapes\, Dionne captures not just the architecture and buildings but also the very essence of urban existence—the stories that unfold before us in every corner\, every shadow. \nDionne’s watercolour paintings range from small intimate pieces to large expansive works. As you wander through his collection\, you’ll notice how each piece reflects a unique interpretation of the city’s persona. The light dances across surfaces while shadows create depth\, inviting us to feel and grasp the nuances of urban life. He meticulously depicts what he sees and experiences in his surroundings—transforming mundane moments into extraordinary discoveries. \nHis work allows us to see how beauty often resides in tiny details—the reflections on a puddle after rain or the architectural shapes that frame our daily journeys. The cultural patterns woven into our lifestyle and habits seamlessly adapt to new environments\, making them our own. In this way\, Dionne adds his colours to each scene\, infusing personal interpretations into familiar landscapes. \nAs we engage with these artworks\, we are reminded that urban spaces are not just physical locations but dynamic entities filled with stories waiting to be uncovered. Each brushstroke invites us to experience our cities anew—to appreciate their beauty and complexity while reflecting on our own perspectives within them. Through “Urban Perspectives\,” Maurice Dionne offers an invitation: step closer\, observe deeply\, and discover your own narrative amidst the vibrant tapestry of urban life.

DESCRIPTION:Six artists present their “stories” of migration\, reflecting the vast instinctual or altered journeys of animals and plants\, and forced human expulsion or immigration to places of hope and opportunity. The intertwining of these diverse migration stories reveals the growing complexity and urgency of species in motion. \nThe Migration artists are members of the Ottawa-Gatineau Printmakers Connective. Drawn together by the theme in 2023\, they have been exploring the political\, economic\, and ecological aspects of migration through the creation of 2- and 3-dimensional print-based art in a variety of printmaking techniques and materials.

SUMMARY:The Posthumous Destiny of Bodies by Judith Bellavance
DESCRIPTION:In this installation composed of photographs\, videos\, and objects\, Judith Bellavance embraces evocation\, suggestion\, and poetic resonance to explore themes of disappearance and transformation in the natural world. Like contemporary still lifes\, the works that guide this immersive\, walk-through experience form a shifting narrative centered on the idea of loss. \nUsing impermanence as a unifying thread\, Bellavance gently translates the process of endings and their quiet resolutions. Yet within this meditation on absence\, she offers a subtle invitation to hope—a quiet affirmation in the face of vanishing.

SUMMARY:Threads of Memory Julie Gladstone & Olivia Mae Sinclair
DESCRIPTION:WALL SPACE GALLERY is pleased to present Threads of Memory\, an exhibition featuring the work of Julie Gladstone and Olivia Mae Sinclair. In this powerful and introspective presentation\, both artists engage in intimate dialogues with themes of trauma\, memory\, and transformation. Through their deeply personal practices\, they navigate the intersection of inner experience and external reality\, examining how time\, spirituality\, and the physical body inform processes of healing and renewal. \nPresented alongside Threads of Memory are new works by Marney McDiarmid\, a ceramic artist based in Katarokwi/Kingston. Known for her functional and sculptural ceramics\, McDiarmid’s latest pieces will be showcased in the gallery’s window display from June 14 to 28\, 2025.

SUMMARY:Settling down - Feeling Nature’s Breath by Catherine Veilleux
DESCRIPTION:From July 3 to 20\, 2025 – Wednesday to Saturday from noon to 6 pm and Sunday from noon to 5 pm \nVernissage: Saturday July 5\, 2025 from 1 to 3 pm \nGalerie Old Chelsea is delighted to present the wonderful intimate nature photographs of Catherine Veilleux\, who presented her magnificent exhibition “Entre-deux” two years ago. \nAs Veilleux tells us\, “After ‘Entre-deux’\, which has guided my gaze over the last few years\, I’m now presenting images in which one settles down – not by fleeing the tumult\, but by embracing it. Anchoring oneself in instability is a fluid dance\, and my photographs\, imbued with minimalism\, reflect this inner journey: they invite us to relax\, to breathe\, to gently connect with nature’. \nTypically composed of two colours\, sometimes just one\, and largely immersed in blur\, her images leave room for the essential\, for sensation rather than definition. Mounted on wooden panels and protected by a natural finish\, they offer themselves without barriers\, without glass\, to provide a direct\, intimate – almost tactile – presence to the viewer. \nAt a time of ever-increasing visual noise and constant urgency\, Settling Down offers something rare: a quiet\, open invitation to linger in complexity and find calm there.  An exhibition not to be missed.

SUMMARY:Crystal Beshara & Shelley Freeman at Arbor Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Crystal Beshara is an award-winning realist painter from Ontario whose work is inspired by her rural upbringing. Working in watercolour\, gouache\, and oil\, she blends fine detail with expressive strokes to explore themes of nature and rural life. An experienced educator and international exhibitor\, Crystal also leads painting workshops across North America and Europe. \nShelley Freeman’s artwork explores the hidden\, enclosed spaces of nature — caves\, rock formations\, abandoned mines\, and underwater plant life — highlighting depth\, texture\, and the play between light and dark. Inspired by travels\, hiking\, and caving\, she creates richly layered oil paintings using resins\, plaster\, and other materials\, often over several months. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is held in public and private collections across Canada\, the U.S.\, and beyond.
